What to consider when choosing vinyl flooring
Is Vinyl the same as Lino?
Sometimes confused with lino, vinyl flooring is made in a very different way which leads to increased durability. Vinyl flooring is made by combining layers with different properties: the core layer, image layer and finish layer. These layers make Vinyl significantly more resistant to damage such as water marks, scratches, dents and stains than linoleum. This makes it a great choice for rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms which can be susceptible to spills.
9 Reasons for choosing vinyl flooring
There are many reasons people choose vinyl flooring so these are just a few examples:
- It is easy to install.
- It is water resistant – spills can easily be wiped or mopped away without causing damage to your floor. This is particularly beneficial when used in bathrooms, utility rooms and kitchens.
- Vinyl is hard wearing and well suited to high traffic areas such as hallways
- It is easy to clean: simple sweeping, vacuuming and mopping are all that is needed to keep vinyl in top condition.
- It is affordable. Sheet rolls of vinyl in particular are a cost-effective way to achieve an attractive and practical floor.
- Vinyl is warm underfoot. Anyone who hates the feel of cold tiles under bare feet will be a fan of the warmth of vinyl.
- Underfloor heating can be used under vinyl flooring.
- Whilst not as soft as carpet, vinyl is a softer alternative to wood or tiles and often feels more comfortable when standing for a long time. (This often makes it preferable to pets too!)
- There are a wide range of designs available from patterns to replicas of natural materials.
- It absorbs sound.
